A Quick Overview of What We Do

We are experienced with a wide variety of research methods, including qualitative methods such as this focus group, as well as intercept interviews, mailed questionnaires, e-mail surveys, observations, group previews, and more.

Our role is collaborative:

Through customized research and consulting, we help museums and other cultural organizations to understand their audiences. Every aspect of serving the public – exhibitions, programming, visitor services, audience development and marketing, membership – can be facilitated with information about your current or potential visitors.

We work with:

  • all types of museums
  • aquariums and zoos
  • gardens, parks, and historic sites
  • performing arts organizations

A Creative Range of Projects

We use established, reliable, and innovative methods of social science research and evaluation techniques to help you move ahead with your goals. Four broad categories of our work are:

  • audience analysis (visitor analysis, market-area or community studies, membership surveys)
  • studies for exhibit development (‘front end’ or ‘concept planning’ studies, storyline testing, formative evaluation, remedial and summative evaluation)
  • visitor experience studies (wayfinding audits, analysis of visitor services, unique challenges)
  • coaching and facilitating (staff development workshops, facilitating planning meetings or staff retreats)
